A lot of zero-sugar electrolyte brands lean on stevia. It’s inexpensive, plant-based, and works on a spec sheet — but the aftertaste is real, and so is the customer feedback. Here’s why doingwell is built without it.
The side-by-side
-
Primary sweetener: doingwell organic monk fruit (Luo Han Guo) · typical stevia stick — stevia leaf extract (often Reb A or Reb M)
-
Common aftertaste complaints: doingwell none reported as a category issue · stevia stick — metallic / bitter / lingering, varies by person
-
Sugar alcohols: doingwell none · stevia stick — sometimes added (erythritol, xylitol) to mask stevia
-
Maltodextrin: doingwell none · stevia stick — often present as a flavor / sweetener carrier
-
Artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors: doingwell none · stevia stick — varies
-
Salt source: doingwell Himalayan Pink Salt across every SKU · stevia stick — varies
Why we made the call
Monk fruit gives a clean sweetness without the metallic finish of stevia, without diet-soda vibes, and without digestive roulette from sugar alcohols. It does its job and politely disappears.
FAQ
Why does stevia bother some people but not others?
The bitter, metallic taste comes from compounds that interact with bitter taste receptors. Sensitivity is partly genetic — some people taste it strongly, others barely notice it. We chose organic monk fruit so the question never comes up.
Is monk fruit actually different from stevia?
Yes. Monk fruit (Luo Han Guo) gets its sweetness from mogrosides, which most people perceive as cleaner and rounder than stevia’s steviol glycosides. Both are zero-calorie and plant-based. They just taste different.
Are sugar alcohols in any doingwell product?
No. Zero erythritol, zero xylitol, zero of the rest.
